Network Dispatch Summary: Large Restaurant POS Stability Resolve

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Problem:
A large, high-volume restaurant utilizing a Toast POS System was experiencing recurring network drops. Both wired Toast terminals and critical receipt printers were dropping offline randomly, halting kitchen workflows and service. The existing infrastructure relied on a TP-Link switch configured with a custom Toast VLAN, which was buckling under peak network traffic and failing to maintain stable VLAN segmentation.

Resolution:

  • Hardware Swap: Decommissioned the failing TP-Link switch and replaced it with a enterprise-grade UniFi 48-Port PoE Switch to provide ample power delivery and superior traffic handling capabilities.
  • VLAN Programming: Configured and provisioned the dedicated Toast VLAN across the UniFi controller. Correctly mapped trunk ports to ensure seamless isolation and PCI compliance without bleeding into the guest or back-of-house networks.
  • Port Mapping: Assigned specific tagged ports to the hardwired terminals, kitchen display systems (KDS), and network receipt printers.

Outcome:
System testing was an absolute success. Rigorous print-tests and continuous terminal pings confirmed 100% network uptime with zero packet drops under simulated load. The entire restaurant network is now fully stabilized and performing perfectly.
